Hello Friends: This is a difficult newsletter to send out. As many of you know, Fran Slade, my partner and Mrs. Claus for sixteen years passed away on January 12th. Seven days later, her son, Earl Slade, filed a complaint with the East Providence Police Department claiming tha I had been violent with some people that visited my apartment. . The officer who responded to Earl’s call wrote that this was a civil matter, but it is now permanent part of my record. It comes up when anyone does a background check. This has cost me over $8,000. Cherry Hill Photo asked me to play Santa at the Emerald Square Mall, but they could not hire me. Even though it is just an accusation, I do not know what to do. That money would have gone a long way to getting The Roger Williams Educational Foundation on the road and help me with the $10.000 that I spent of Fran’s funeral and burial. The total cost was $15,000, and Fran’s daughter paid a 1/3. Earl paid nothing and received over $15,000 in insurance proceeds. Here is a copy of the report. East Providence Police Department
On 01/19/2021 at approximately 1315 hrs, I was dispatched to the front parking lot of this agency to meet with a complainant regarding a civil matter. Upon arrival I met with Earl Slade
Earl explained to me that his mother passed away recently. He said that prior to her death she lived at 105 Newman Ave Apt 913 with her caretaker and companion, Marc Kohler. He said that after his mother passed away, Marc has become very difficult to deal with in regards to settlements of her estate. Earl stated that Marc will not allow him or his family into the apartment to obtain items or make other arrangements to move items out in the future. He said that he responded to the apartment recently with several family members and Marc pushed them out of the door when they entered.
These are all lies. On the evening of Fran’s funeral, Earl called to see if he, his wife Tina, and her daughter, Shannon, could come by on Saturday, the 16th, day after the funeral, to get things from Fran’s belongings. I wanted to be left alone to grieve. He called other times, and I let them come visit on Monday, the 18th. They arrived at about 3:00 PM, and I did not force them out. Earl has told a third party(Staff at Prov idence Hope Health Hospice Center) that I had hit and bruised Tina. Look, I let them in, and once seated, Tina and Shannon raged against Linda Afflick (Fran’s daughter) about a ring that Fran had bequeathed to Linda. They claimed that Linda would just sell it. Then, Earl launched into a profanity laced tantrum about Bob Afflick, Linda’s husband. Earl was upset, because Bob had asked about Fran’s desire to be buried with her husband in Tifton Georgia. We all knew that , and her relatives expected to have her come soon. Earl raged against Bob’s “Getting into my families’ things!!!!” He raised his voice, and I told him to stop. When he did not stop, I raised my voice, and told them that this kind of screaming would not be allowed in Fran’s home. He screamed more, and I asked them all to leave the apartment. I NEVER touched any of them. Think of it this way: Fran dies on a Tuesday. On Wednesday, I paid $15,000 for the funeral and burial expenses, and was told by Tina that the insurance policies that Fran had would cover the expenses of these things. On Thursday, they held a viewing to which only one person came. On Friday, the funeral was at 10:00 AM, and by that evening Earl was pushing to get into Fran’s things. Earl had also made the decision to bury Fran in Pawtucket instead of having her flown to Georgia which Fran wanted. She wanted to be with her husband, Earl Slade. Earl did this without telling me, Linda, Bob, and all the relatives in Georgia. In the end, Earl paid nothing for the funeral and burial expenses, and received more than $15,000 in insurance proceeds.
Earl stated the apartment was leased in his mother’s name and Marc was not listed on it.
I spoke to Cpl. Aguiar about the matter as he had just responded to the apartment earlier on this date. Cpl. Aguiar advised that Rumford Towers management was in the process of evicting Marc from the apartment and stated they would be in contact with Earl.
Earl stated he understood the matter was civil in nature but requested to file a report for documentation purposes.
This was Earl’s goal. He wanted a criminal report to destroy me and my life. He has succeeded at that. If he had accepted the determination that the issue was civil, then I would not have a permement report against me. had told people that he objected to Fran and I being together. Well, now he has acted out of those feelings, and I am incredibly sad for him. All of you know that Fran and I had a very special love, and life/ All of this makes me sick.
I advised him to contact the police department if.he felt he needed an officer present at the apartment in the future.
